Suggestions on what to do when in Aberystwyth

Walk or take the Cliff Railway up Constitution Hill and enjoy the great views of the town with a coffee in the Consti cafe. There are other various things for the whole family to do - look through the Camera Obscure, 10 pin bowling, games room and Frisbee golf.

Visit the monument on Pen Dinas and see the views from the other side of the town. Ideal place for a picnic.

Enjoy the spectacular Rheidol Valley countryside as you travel the 12 miles on the Vale of Rheidol Railway to Devils Bridge. Whilst in Devils Bridge walk along the Nature Trail, see the Three Bridges - built one on top of each other, view the Devils punch bowl, cross the humped Bridge or descend Jacobs Ladder.

For all the walkers and hikers - plenty of places to explore be it coastal or countryside. 60 miles of Coastal path to walk in Ceredigion of which there is approx 20 miles around Aberystwyth. Get to know Aberystwyth with the 4 km self guided walking tour of the town or just amble along the 11 hectare Nature Park at Penglais. There are plenty of countryside walks to chose from just outside Aberystwyth at the Hafod Estate, Bwlch Nant yr Arian, Rheidol Valley are just to name a few.

For all the cyclists- a choice of 2 cycle paths for you to explore -

Ystwyth Cycle Trail - 34km - Aberystwyth to Tregaron.
Rheidol cycle Trail - 28km - Aberystwyth Marina to Devils Bridge.
Bwlch Nant Yr Arian - selection of mountain bike trails and new skills area.
Explore what is left of the old castle - the castle grounds are an ideal place for a family picnic. For the younger children there is a play ground area and for the older children and adults there is the crazy golf and pitch and put.

For the water sport enthusiast- surfers, kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding usually takes place in the trap on South Beach. Those who likes to explore the rock pools we have them too by castle rock.

Dolphins can be seen occasionally on South Beach but there is Boat trips organized from New Quay on a daily basis - weather permitting - booking advisable.

The whole family can enjoy a trip out into Cardigan Bay on a fishing boat to catch mackerel or crab under the guidance of experienced local fishermen. Sea angling boat trips are available from Aberystwyth and New Quay.

For those wanting to try out our Beaches - then you are spoilt for choice.

North and South Beach Aberystwyth, Tanybwlch,
Clarach, Borth, Ynyslas,
Llanrhystud, Llanon and Aberaeron - just to name a few.
For the golfers - we have two excellent golf courses for you to chose from:-

Aberystwyth Golf Club offers exciting golf for players of all ability. 
6119 yards Par 70 course is not only enjoyable but the scenic views will stay with you forever.
Borth Golf Club is a traditional links course and is truly a memorable experience and unique among other links courses in Wales.
For the bird watchers - you can visit Bwlch Nant yrArian and watch the red kites being fed on a daily basis or head up to Machynlleth to see the Ospreys at the Dyfi Osprey Project.

Family days out at the Shoreline Outdoor Activity Centre which offers Archery, Target Shooting, Laser tag, Nerf Wars and Airsoft for adults and children.

For them occasional wet days - why not visit the National Library, the Ceredigion Museum, the Art Centre or the new Bandstand on the Sea front. We currently have approx 90 shops in the town for you to explore together with our newly refurbished Market Hall.

Just outside Aberystwyth in Cwm Rheidol is the Butterfly House - a must on a wet damp day.

Walk, jog or run along the whole length of the Promenade - 2000 meters in total - an ideal way to end your day or even start your day may be.
We have stunning sunsets here together with one of Aberystwyth’s most spectacular natural phenomenon – the Starling Migration at the Pier which occurs at dusk in the Autumn/Winter months.

Don't forget before you leave Aberystwyth you MUST kick the bar!!- 
Tradition has it that if you walked the whole length of the prom (from the Marina end to the Cliff Railway) and kicked the bar - then it brings you Good Luck. Others say that you can kick the bar at either end – you decide which end you want to kick – but just remember to KICK THE BAR!!!
